Start with access and records
We review the problem, available plans and accessible inspection points. Please tell us about buried covers, locked areas, traffic or operational restrictions.
Knowing where a drainage network runs helps with investigations, maintenance and proposed property work. Clean A Drain Ltd traces and maps accessible drainage across Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyneside and the wider North East.
Tracing a route and inspecting pipe condition are related tasks, but they answer different questions. CCTV drainage surveys record the condition visible within the pipe; mapping brings the established routes and access points together into a layout.

Send us any existing plan and explain how the map will be used. Depending on the agreed investigation and what can be established on site, a layout can identify inspection points, surveyed connections, pipe routes and the direction of flow.
Unknown routes, inaccessible sections and connections that have not been confirmed need to be identified as limitations. A mapped route should not be treated as proof that every buried connection has been located.
If you need pipe diameters, cover levels, invert levels, gradients, an outfall level or a particular drawing format, specify these before the visit. Measured levels or a topographical survey are not automatically included in a CCTV inspection or a basic drainage map. We will confirm what can be provided and whether additional survey input is needed.

CCTV inspection and tracing equipment can help establish accessible pipe routes and connections. Clearance may be needed where a blockage prevents the investigation.
The agreed mapping output brings together the information established during the investigation, with any important gaps or access limitations.
The layout can support maintenance planning, further investigation or decisions about repairs. A designer should confirm whether it meets the requirements of a proposed scheme.
Mapping is quoted according to the site, network size, access, investigation required and drawing or reporting scope. It is not automatically included in the published CCTV survey prices.
Provide the site postcode, reason for the work, approximate number of chambers and any requirements from your designer or authority. Larger sites may also need commercial drainage investigation and maintenance.
Our drainage team’s existing qualifications and experience are described here. We will explain the information that the drainage investigation can establish rather than assume that it replaces another type of survey.
We cover Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland, Gateshead, Sunderland and Durham. See our service areas and towns and contact us with your postcode to discuss attendance and access.
